Canutillo or Mormon tea has been used by indigenous people for thousands of years for things like a diuretic, sinuses, dye, a coffee like beverage or to quench the thirst which is the use European settlers like the Mormons took from them and commandeered the name.

Now for how we use it. This is where listening to people's stories and folk remedies comes in handy. Our great friend Patti told me that growing up that they called Mormon Tea "Brigham's Tea" after Brigham Young, an early Mormon leader. Patti told us that when she had acne as a teenager, her mom would make Mormon tea then soak corn husks in the tea and place the husks on Patti's face and not only did it feel amazing but it helped clear her skin. Pretty cool right but are you asking yourself how does this work and is it legit?

TANNINS are what makes this work. Tannins are organic astringent molecules found in the barks, stems, seeds of plants. The antimicrobial properties of tannins fight against bacterial infections (like ACNE) and also act as an antioxidant against free radicals that cause cell damage. And because tannins are also a natural astringent, they remove excess oil from your pores and tighten them without drying out your skin. And we know that the stems of this beautiful plant contain tannins.

Our soap is gentle enough to remove excess oils without drying your skin.
